Margery A. Stewart, 91, died peacefully at 8:48 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Born on January 19, 1923 in Peru, Illinois to John and Marguerite (Elliston) Feurer. Member of first graduating class of West High School in Rockford, Illinois in 1941. Graduated from St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and worked there as an assistant supervisor of a medical surgical unit until she joined the Army Nurse Corps in April, 1945. Did her basic training at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and then was sent overseas to serve on the island of Oahu from June, 1945 to August, 1946. Was a member of the 219th General Hospital. Married James F. Stewart on January 11, 1947. Was active with both Girl Scouting and Boy Scouting on a leadership level for a number of years. Was an avid gardener. Continued nursing part-time on a private basis, but she devoted most of her life to her husband and children. Survivors include her sons, James (Katie) of Mission Viejo, California and Robert (Christine) of Browntown, Wisconsin; daughter Catherine (William) Andrewes of Concord, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews. Predeceased by her husband James, her sister Mary Alice Wilson of Rockford, Illinois, and an infant son, David. Marge leaves behind many wonderful memories for all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 126 West Fifth Street, Pecatonica with Rev. Robert Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the church. Luncheon at church immediately following service. Private burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macula Vision Research Foundation, One Tower Bridge, 100 Front Street, Suite 300, West Conshohocken, PA 19428-2894, or on-line at www.mvrf.org.
