MONROE - One of the four suspects accused of various counts of animal mistreatment was found guilty Tuesday, following the seizure of 46 dogs, most of which were Great Danes, by authorities in May.
Donovan Williams, 45, Brodhead, appeared in Green County Court Tuesday with attorney Robert Nagel.
He was found guilty of intentionally mistreating animals and intentionally having improper animal shelter-ventilation, both a class A misdemeanor, after pleading no contest to the charge. Four other charges of intentionally mistreatment of animal charges, all class A misdemeanors, were dismissed.
Williams' case was a deferred prosecution and sentence. He is to follow the prosecution agreement, which includes refraining from any further violations of local, state or federal laws and paying costs.
As a pre-conditioning to possessing, owning, or keeping any dogs during the deferment period, Williams had to agree to obtain a psychologist assessment and evaluation relating to his ability to appropriately care for and interact with canine animals.
He was fined $326.
Allyson Williams, 24, will appear in court for a status conference at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. She is charged with two counts of intentionally providing improper animal shelter, and one count of intentional mistreatment of animals.
Melissa Harrel, 57, will appear for a status conference at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7. She is charged with one count of intentional mistreatment of animals and one count of intentionally providing improper animal shelter.
Kathy Williams, 54, will appear in court for a status conference at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12. She is charged with three counts of intentionally mistreating animals, two counts of intentionally providing improper animal shelter, and two counts of intentional mistreatment of animals.
