DARLINGTON - An Amish man sustained minor injuries after he was ejected from his buggy in a hit-and-run accident just outside city limits late Sunday, Jan. 8, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to a motorist's report at 10:53 p.m. that a horse pulling a driverless buggy was running along Wisconsin 23 in the Town of Willow Springs. The horse was stopped with help from Darlington police, but not until after it had run unchecked through several streets and yards off Wis. 23.
Jacob K. King, 20, Darlington, later told deputies an unknown vehicle hit his buggy from behind while he was traveling southbound on Wis. 23. Deputies located him after the dispatch center alerted them that King was being transported to Darlington from a residence near the scene of the accident.
King refused medical treatment for his injuries, according to the Sheriff's Department.
The accident remains under investigation.
