ROCK COUNTY - A man with three convictions of driving while intoxicated was arrested again on the same charge after Rock County deputies responded to a report of an unoccupied, heavily damaged pickup truck covered in blood in southwest Rock County early Saturday, Dec. 31.

Justin S. Buchholz, 33, New Franken, is also charged with causing injury by operating while intoxicated. He may face additional charges as the investigation continues, according to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff's Department. Both Buchholz and his passenger, Christopher Woods, 36, Newark, were seriously injured.

A newspaper delivery person came across Buchholz's pickup truck, covered inside and out in "a large amount of blood" at 4:17 a.m. on Fossum Road at Sagen Road in the Town of Avon, according to authorities.

About three hours later, a resident on Skinner Road reported Buchholz was in their garage. He was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Janesville.

Deputies also eventually located Woods, who had multiple broken bones and a laceration. He was transported by ambulance to Beloit Hospital and later to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Buchholz was reportedly traveling south on Fossum Road when he failed to make a 90-degree turn on Sagen Road and hit a tree head-on.

Assisting the Rock County deputies in the search for Buchholz and Woods were firefighters and officers from Orfordville Fire, Town of Beloit Police and Fire, Brodhead Fire, Town of Turtle Police and City of Beloit Police.

Buchholz was convicted of his second DWI in March 2004 in Rock County and his third in August 2008 in Dane County, according to state court records.
