Man, 25, arrested in hit-and-run crash

MONROE - A Monroe man was arrested Tuesday after his vehicle hit several mailboxes and a van at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of 21st Street West.

Alton L. Bellows, 25, was arrested for second-offense drunken driving; knowingly driving with a revoked license causing property damage; hit- and-run to property adjacent to highway; hit-and-run to unattended vehicles; failure to maintain control of a vehicle; and failure to notify police of an accident.

He was released pending court.

According to the Monroe Police Department, Bellows' vehicle hit several mailboxes in the 2100 block of Richland Road. It rear-ended a parked van owned by Gwen Shaker, 51, Monroe, which then hit a sports utility vehicle owned by Terry J. Shaker, 49, Monroe. Terry Shaker's vehicle was pushed against a garage.

The vehicles received moderate damage and there was minor damage to the garage.
