Man, 20, jailed after hit-and-run crash

MONROE - A Monroe man was jailed after a hit-and-run crash that caused an injury at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of 21st Street.

Euglogio Hipolito Cruz, 20, Monroe, was arrested for driving under the influence, causing injury while intoxicated, hit and run, negligent operation of a vehicle and third-offense driving without a license.

Police report Cruz's vehicle was traveling east on 21st Street when it hit vehicles driven by Julie A. Moore, 41, Argyle, and Charles Welty, 51, Monroe.

Cruz fled the scene and attempted to turn north on 9th Avenue. The vehicle jumped the curb and hit a pine tree in the 900 block of 21st Street. He continued north and the vehicle jumped another curb, hit another tree and a vehicle parked in the 2000 block of 9th Avenue.

Cruz and Moore were taken to the Monroe Clinic for injuries.
