Lucille T. Taylor, age 86, of Darlington, WI, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born May 29, 1926 in Blanchardville, WI, the daughter of Harold and Rose (Gavigan) Jaegers. Lucille and her family moved to Argyle during the depression years where she attended and graduated from Argyle High School in 1945. Following her high school graduation Lucille attended Madison College to become a secretary. She returned to Argyle and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Zinky for three years. Lucille was united marriage to J. Kenneth Taylor on July 1, 1950 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Argyle, WI. In 1964, she went to Chicago and enrolled in classes to become a florist. Lucille opened her first flower shop, Taylor's Greenhouse, out of the basement of her home. In 1965, she built a greenhouse next to her home, where she raised bedding and garden plants that were started as seedlings. During Christmas she would sell poinsettias and trees, which the family could flock in blue, red, green, and white. In addition to her greenhouse in 1967 she built her floral shop. Lucille continued her love as a florist until retiring in 1994.
Lucille is survived by her husband: Kenny at home; four children: John (Myra) Taylor, James (Becky) Taylor, Tim (Laurie) Taylor, and Patti Ann (Lyle) Burke all of Darlington; nine grandchildren: Allison, and Meghan Taylor, Devon (Bill) Wamsley, Collin (fiancée Jenna Stellmacher) Taylor, Logan Taylor, Cassie (Blake) Prine, Molly (Adam) Wiegel, Kayla and Taylor Burke all of Darlington; and three great-grandchildren: Brynly and Harper Wamsley and Porter Prine. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: LuAnn Taylor; and one sister: Margaret Wallschlager.
Lucille was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of Darlington Homemakers Club, Garden Club, Historical Society, NA Bluebird Society, and a charter member of Red Hat Society. Lucille was the original organizer of the Lafayette Manor Auxiliary, to which she was voted first to serve as president. She taught knitting to numerous people in the community. Lucille enjoyed sending cards for every event to people she knew and didn't know. Later in Lucille's life each card would include a scissor-snipped decoration.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 104 E. Harriett St. in Darlington with Rev. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Monday, August 20, 2012, from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Main Street in Darlington where a rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
