Loyis M. Ness, age 85 of Wiota, WI, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, WI. He was born December 10, 1923 in Peterson, MN, the son of Thomas and Alma (Quamen) Ness. Loy worked in construction in Alma, WI for LaCrosse-Judging Corp. out of Chicago, IL. He later moved to Footville, WI and worked at the General Motors Plant in Janesville for 29 years before retiring in 1986. Loy was united in marriage to Joyce Winn on October 25, 1987 at West Wiota Lutheran Church. Following his marriage to Joyce, he moved to Wiota, where they have resided since.

Loy is survived by his wife: Joyce at home; five children: Larry (Dorthy) Ness of Robinson, IL, Janice (Harv) Kucaba of Delavan, WI, Joan Winn Rufenact of Monroe, WI, Jim (Laurene) Winn of Wiota, WI, and Julie Stephenson of Monticello, WI; three grandchildren: Jamie (Rick) Ackley, Ashley (Chad) Fox and Chad (Jaclyn VonHaden) Stephenson; two great-grandsons: James Ackley and Maxwell Fox; one special niece: Angie (Andie) Rodenkirch of Milwaukee, WI; one brother: Arnold (Edna) Ness of Northfield, MN; one sister: Marian (Robert) Barthel of Crystal, MN; two sisters-in-law: Barbara Ness of Janesville, WI and Della Ness of Clearwater, MN; one brother-in-law: Morry Sorenson, Osakis, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Willard, Robert, and Arthur Ness; one sister: Donna Sorenson; and one sister-in-law: Bette Ness.

Loy was a member of Wiota Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was a past member of the Wiota Fire Department and of the UAW Local 95. Loy served with the Seventh Marine Corp. during WWII in China in 1944, where he walked the Great Wall, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He enjoyed watching westerns, dancing, and his family and friends. Loy also enjoyed the Wiota 4th of July celebration cooking brats with his firemen friends and driving his moped.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Road 78 in Wiota, WI, with Rev. Sara Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington, WI with Military Graveside Rites to be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at Wiota Lutheran Church in Wiota, WI. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
