BRODHEAD - Lloyd E. Bettenhausen, age 88, of Brodhead, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Woods Crossing Nursing Home, Brodhead. He was born on January 28, 1927 in Blue Island, IL, the son of Arthur and Irene (Wannemacher) Bettenhausen. He married Irene A. Stege on February 28, 1954 in Tinley Park, IL.
Lloyd was a farmer all of his life, except for two years in the U.S. Army after graduating from high school. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhead, and had served on the church council. He also was a member of the Rock County Farm Bureau Board for many years. Lloyd loved baseball, especially the Cubs, enjoyed traveling, and was a member of the Brodhead American Legion Post 197 and the VFW Post 6858.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; four sons, Christian, Brodhead, James (Alicia), Albany, WI, Michael (Jill), Arlington, VA, Jeffrey (Debra) Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren, Brandan, Nathan, Steven (Hillary), Tyler (Shelly), Justin, Laura and Cole Bettenhausen; three sisters, Lois (Delmer) Mather, Mokena, IL, Beverly Coon, Tinley Park, IL, Lynne (Bill) Doogan, Frankfort, IL; a brother, Thomas (Marilyn) Bettenhausen, Lexington, KY; and a sister-in-law, Jane Bettenhausen, Peotone, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Earle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2015, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI.
