Lillian R. Phillips, age 84, died on February 11, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on June 4, 1924 in South Wayne, the daughter of John and Ellen (Hanson) Bergum. She married Clifford Broge in Monroe in 1946 and later married Charles Phillips Sr. in Monroe in 1975. She farmed for many years and later worked for St. Clare Hospital until her retirement.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and feeding the birds.
She is survived by her sons, Marvin (Ellen) Broge of Monroe and Gaylord (Jean) Broge of Gratiot; daughters, Gloria (Ardell) Kopp of Brodhead and Wanda (Duane) Wiegel of Darlington; sister, Evelyn Hansen of Xenia, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husbands, Clifford Broge and Charles Phillips Sr.; daughter, Rita Hanson; granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Wiegel; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church of Monroe with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will be in a West Wiota Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, Monroe.
A memorial fund is being established.
