FREEPORT - Letha E. Green, 84, beloved child, wife, mother, grandmother, old grandmother, died Saturday, March 21, 2009.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1924 in Freeport to Joseph H. and Matilda (Thompson) Michel. She attended Freeport High School and Browns Business College.
On January 30, 1945 she married William T. Green.
In her lifetime she was an actress, singer, bookkeeper, draftsman, builder, farmer, nurse, teacher, chef, tailor, artist, stand up comedian, omsbudsman, Cubs fan, a steady hand on the tiller, and a friend to anyone who needed one.
Surviving are her children: Georgianna (Terry) Johnson, Joseph (Joyce) Green, Michael (Kate) Green, Patrick (Diane) Green, Charles Green, Arlene Green; twelve grandchildren: Laura (Jon) Watson, Elizabeth (Todd) West, Jennifer (Tony) Garcia, Jeremy (Mary) Green, Courtney (Michael) Gray, Carl (Maria) Green, Kathleen Green, Matthew (Dawn) Green, Amanda (Jake) Veeder, Erika (Patrick) Straka, Brendan Johnson, Thomas Johnson; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Lelia (John) Turly; one brother, Edward (Norma) Michel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; one infant, Billy; her husband, William; one brother, Thomas Michel; and infant granddaughter, Mary Arlene Green.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Manuel Recera officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Freeport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. at Schwarz Park Boulevard Chapel, 608 S. Park Boulevard, Freeport. In Lieu of Flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
