Leone L. Loeffel Coplien, age 95 of Monroe formerly Albany, Wisconsin died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. She was born on November 13, 1915 in Dutch Hollow, Green County, the daughter of John and Martha (Golz) Loeffel. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Green County Normal School and U.W. Whitewater College. Leone married Ervin "Copey" Coplien on June 10, 1941 at the Immanuel EUB Church in Monroe and they farmed in Sylvester Township until 1968, when they moved to Albany. She was a lifelong teacher at the Babler and Dutch Hollow rural schools and for the Albany School system. Leone was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church & the Church's Naomi Circle and former member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Green County Retired Teachers Association and of the Dutch Hollow and Winnette Homemakers.
Leone is survived by a daughter, Sharon (John) Schmid; brother Harvey (Susan) Loeffel ; sister, Eunice Witt all of Monroe; grandchildren, Deena and Danelle (Todd) Strang Schmid; great grandson, Tucker Schmid Cox; along with many other relatives. She is predeceased by her parents; husband; brothers, Armin, Manuel and Edward Loeffel; sisters, Viola Ladwig, Pearl Schild, Verlene Miller, Frances Hefty and Carol Jean in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday January 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Albany United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.
A memorial fund is being established in Leone's memory.
