MEDFORD - Leo A. Boelk, 90, Medford, WI, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his residence in the township of Medford. He was born August 13, 1918 in Lafayette County, WI, to William F. and Marie A. (Krupke) Boelk. He attended Zion elementary schools, South Wayne, WI. He married Gladys E. Krahmer on December 16, 1951 at Lena, IL.

In his early years he did farming work for neighbors. He was a US Army veteran of WW II serving from 1940-1945. After the service, he did painting work in Lena, IL, owned and operated a livestock trucking business in Stephenson County in Illinois for periods of time and in 1958 purchased a farm in the Thorp, WI area until 1965 when he moved to Medford and owned and operated the Kramer Motel for 4 years. In 1969 they moved to the town of Medford and he drove school bus, worked for the IGA Store, drove ready mix truck for Frances Melvin for 6 years, sold real estate for Dairyland Realty for 3 years, and worked for Brunner Well Drilling for 5 years until retirement in 1983. In retirement, he did water sampling in the area and sold produce at the Medford Farmers Market. He enjoyed deer hunting, trapping, gardening, playing cards, fishing, the outdoors and making fire wood. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Medford, and the Medford VFW Club.

Survivors include: his wife, Gladys E. Boelk, Medford; a son, Delmar (Bettina) Boelk, Medford; two daughters, Tamara (David) Gentry, Woodbury, Minn., and Tina Wells, Medford; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Vincent, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and two brothers, Harold (Mabel) Boelk, Warren, Ill., and Ralph Boelk, Mendota, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Ethan J.Wells on March 14, 2003; a sister, Hazel DeVoe; and a brother, Frank Boelk.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford, with the Rev. Carl J. Busse officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services on Saturday, July 25, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Medford. Burial will be in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II where there will be graveside military rites performed by the Medford VFW Military Honors Team.
