LaVerne F. Altmann Sr., age 75 of Monroe, died peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Agrace Hospice in Janesville. LaVerne was born on October 20, 1941 in Monroe, the son of Theodore L. and Clara (Kopp) Altmann. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1960 and married his classmate, Marianne Mahle, on October 19, 1963. Following his marriage, LaVerne was employed at Clark Implement/Evergreen Equipment for several years. He later worked in the snow and ice department at Monroe Truck until retiring. LaVerne had a love for classic cars, go kart racing, and midget racing. He and his son Lance owned a midget car that they raced many times at Angel Park Speedway in Sun Prairie. LaVerne also enjoyed playing craps and watching football. He loved his family and cherished the time spent with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marianne Altmann; two sons, Fred Altmann and Lance (Jennifer) Altmann, all of Monroe; four granddaughters, twins Asia and Aerial, Alicia and Danica Altmann; two sisters, Violet Gilbertson of Mt. Horeb, and Sharon Hanson of Verona, WI; a sister-in-law, Donna Altmann of Sacremento, CA; and a brother-in-law, Harry Saxer of New Glarus. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Theodore J. Altmann; a sister, Viola Saxer; nephew, Robert Gilbertson; and a niece, Michelle Souza.

A visitation for LaVerne Altmann will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. No funeral services will be held. A memorial fund will be established in LaVerne's name for Agrace Hospice. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
