Kittiemay Whitehead

Kittiemay Whitehead, age 101 of Monroe, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Graceland Manor. She was born June 17, 1909 in Clarno Township, the daughter of Homer and Minnie (Campbell) Anderson. She attended the Clarno Townhouse School. Kittiemay and Elmer Whitehead were married August 29, 1927 and farmed in Twin Grove for many years. She worked at St. Clare Hospital for 13 years and did home care for the elderly until retiring in 2002.

She is a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, charter member of the Jefferson Homemakers, charter member of Monroe Senior Center Board, and was President of American Association of Retired Person for 9 years. Her other memberships include Monroe Garden Club, Women of the Moose #599, Monroe Pythian Sisters, Royal Neighbors, Twin Grove School Board for 3 years, and a former member of the Bethel Cemetery Board.

She loved entertaining her grandchildren and always enjoyed a big garden. Kittiemay also liked dancing, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery work.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Heinz) Beutel of Belleville; two sons, Larry (Mary) Whitehead of Juda, and Norman (Vickie) Whitehead of Monroe; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and greatgreatgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1964; daughter, Judith Elmer in 1995; grandson Anthony Whitehead in 1984; two brothers, Clarence in infancy, and Lester Anderson in 1969; and five sisters, Beatrice Mulligan in 1985, Mabel Hawthorn in 1983, Thelma Meyers in 1977, Bereniece Lewis in 1990, Charlotte Austin in 1998, and Verna Koeneman in 2002.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Tuesday, December 21, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Kittiemay's name.
