Katherine June Knipschild Siedschlag, age 82 of Monroe, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Katherine was born June 18, 1926 in Monroe, the daughter of John H. and Bertha (Haack) Knipschild.

She attended Monroe public schools, graduated from Monroe High School in 1944 and Whitewater State Teachers College in 1948 with a degree in Education.

She married Donald N. Siedschlag on August 15, 1948. They lived in Melrose and Middleton, WI before returning to Monroe in 1955.

Katherine taught Business Education subjects at Lena, IL, Melrose, WI, Juda, WI, and Monroe High School from 1961 until 1988. She retired in June, 1988 after 35 years of teaching. While at Monroe High School she was the Business Education Dept. Chairman for 27 years, the "M" Book advisor for 12 years, and "M" Book Business Advisor for 15 years.

She was a member of the Monroe Education Assoc.(past treasurer), Wis. Business Education Assoc., National Business Education Assoc., National Education Assoc., Wis. Education Assoc., Delta Pi Epsilon, Alpha Delta Kappa(secretary and treasurer), Omicron Chapter of Monroe, and Green County Retired Educators (past treasurer).

Katherine was also a member of Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church and treasurer of Mt. Olive Pre-School from 1992 until 1994; and a member of Swiss Attic Fanciers Quester Club of Monroe, and the Sugar River China Painters.

She is survived by a daughter, Amy (James) Solum of Burlington, WI; a son, Mark John (Jane) Siedschlag of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Lucus James, Jonathon Karl, and Jamie Kay Solum of Burlington, WI; and Daniel M. Siedschlag of Alpharetta, GA; a niece, Karen Knipschild of Madison; and a nephew, Robert Knipschild of Janesville.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1951; her father in 1962; her husband, Donald, on January 31, 1977; and a brother, John F. Knipschild in 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Pastor Donald Swartz of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Monroe, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given in Katherine's name to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
