John E. Condon, age 87 of Argyle, WI passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at his home in rural Argyle. He was born April 17, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, OH the son of John R. and Alice D. (Wysner) Condon. He graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School in Mt. Vernon, OH in 1946. He attended the University of Dayton and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics in 1951. Following graduation he served two years in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean conflict.

He was most proud of his wife of 62 years, Dolores, and his family. He married Dolores (Dody) R. Peterson on November 8, 1952. His five children were his pride and joy. John is survived by his wife Dolores at home; four children: John Patrick (Jane) Condon of Brookfield, WI, Margaret Crane of Saratoga, CA, Mary Lynn (Terry) Barrette of River Falls, WI and Michael (Mary) Condon of River Falls, WI; six grandchildren: Kevin (Meaghan), Christina, Brian, Darian, Hannah and Bryce; great-grandchild, Wesson and two sisters: Mary Alice Williams of Olmsted Falls, OH and Coletta Kritzell of Barberton, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Susan Zuehlsdorff in 2011.

He began his professional career in 1953 as a statistician in the Quality Control Office, Army Material Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, OH. He served one year (1955-56) as a Research Associate, Operation Research Group at The Ohio State University; while there he obtained a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering. He returned to Wright-Patterson AFB and in 1960 became Deputy Director, Quality Control Office, Air Force Logistics Command.

In 1962 he joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Washington, D.C. as Director, Office of Reliability and Quality Assurance. He held this position for 10 years with responsibility for planning, direction, and leadership of the Reliability and Quality Assurance Program for the entire Space Program. He was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1969. Also, he attended night school at George Washington University and received a Doctor of Science degree in Engineering Administration in 1967.

In 1972 he joined Abbott Laboratories in Lake County, IL as Corporate Vice President Quality Assurance. He continued in this position until his retirement in 1988. He served as "Chief Quality Officer" for two and a half decades in different segments of industry, aerospace and healthcare, which was a significant achievement within his profession. He gave over 20 years of volunteer service to the Boy Scouts in Northern Virginia and Lake County, IL; receiving both the St. George and Silver Beaver awards. He was a founding member (1978) and Director of The Hundred Club of Lake County, IL, devoted to helping the surviving spouses and children of law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. John was also very active in the United Way of Lake County, IL, ultimately serving as Chairman.

His professional activities began in 1956 when he joined the American Society for Quality Control (now known as the American Society for Quality - ASQ). He held many positions over the years including President of the Society (1989-90). His professional honors included: Fellow of ASQ, the ASQ Distinguished Service Medal, and the ASQ Edwards Medal.

John was honored by the University of Dayton with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was a founding board member of the Argyle Community Fund. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for 60 years.

Following retirement he bought what he described as a "piece of paradise" near Argyle and moved there in 1992. John was very proud of his Irish heritage and in 2002 he and Dody took the entire family to Ireland to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed the outdoors whether playing golf, gardening, hunting, or caring for his acreage. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends

A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (213 N. Lafayette St, Argyle) a branch of St. Isidore Parish with Rev. Thomas Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 p.m. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle (801 Milwaukee St) where a rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
