BELLEVILLE - Joen Pearl Esther Luecke (Lutz) King died of cancer on August 7, 2009 at her home in rural Belleville. She was born July 6, 1942 in West Bend, the daughter of William and Mabel (Bauer) Luecke. She graduated from West Bend High School, got married (William Lutz) and had two children, Rick and Lori. She worked at Amity Leather Factory in West Bend and, later, at Koehn and Koehn Jewelers, and later Hron Jewelers. She also attended St. John's Lutheran in West Bend.

After Joen's divorce, she met Andy King in 1988 and moved to Belleville to be closer to him in November, 1989. Joen and Andy married on July 11, 1998. They became a great team. Joen was self-employed as a house cleaner and also was the bookkeeper and designer for their business, King Construction. She had a tremendous gift of listening to customers' wishes and helping create a design that gave them exactly what they wanted. She also designed and sold the first condominiums that were built in Belleville in the early 1990s.

Her artistic talents surfaced in many places. Her yard is a canvas for a potpourri of plants, flowers and other landscape touches that she used to create a visual masterpiece. It is a haven for many birds, which Joen loved to watch.

Joen loved birthdays and holidays. Christmas was her particular favorite. She enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas and spending it with her family that included four grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

The Breakfast Bunch also was very dear to Joen's heart. Each Thursday morning, she met with Patti Wilson-Aslakson, Diane Charles, Judy Hanna, Sharon Maas and Marsha Ralston-Edlinger. The stories told among close friends over breakfast often brought laughter and sometime tears and were always cherished.

Joen will be remembered as a giver by those who loved and knew her. She was an elegant lady who warmed every room she entered with her radiant smile. That was very evident at Primrose Lutheran Church. She made a special church even more special with her love and giving heart. She was a member and office holder with Women of ELCA and Grace Circle at Primrose. She also was involved in church council, the choir, the quilters, the church supper and bible studies. She was a mentor, a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher as well as an usher, greeter, lesson reader and altar server. She also helped make prayer shawls for sick members. Joen cherished the one she received during her courageous battle with cancer. She was also very proud to be a Girl Scout leader for several years.

She is survived by her husband Andy; a son, Richard Lutz (Cambellsport) and his wife Gayleen and their children Emily and Alex; a daughter, Lori Wendt (Fond du Lac) and her husband Jeffrey and their children Brayden and Kaillyn; a step-daughter, Leslie King (New Glarus); siblings Adelia Dins (West Bend), Mildred Harper (Virginia Beach, Va.), Lloyd Luecke (New Smyrna Beach, Fl.), Loris Daley (Dover, N.H.), Roger Luecke (Tomahawk) and Betty Hamaan (Cedarburg); and mother-in-law Rose King (Belleville) and sisters-in-law Marleen Hynek (Cambridge) and Florence Connors (Mt. Vernon).

She was preceded in death by her parents; an older sister, Edna, who died in infancy; her father-in-law, Gilbert King; sisters-in-law Valerie Luecke and Joyce Luecke; a nephew Mike Luecke; and her former in-laws, Milton and Lola Lutz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Primrose Lutheran Church, 8770 Ridge Drive, Belleville, WI with Pastor Nicole Espe officiating.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
