BROOKLYN - Janet Esther Fankhauser age 89 of Brooklyn died Thursday September 4, 2014 at Collinwood Nursing Home Brodhead. She was born on October 29, 1924 in Orangeville Illinois the daughter of George and Ida (Kuhl) Koch. Janet married Edward Fankhauser on February 11, 1951 in Monroe Wisconsin and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1984. Janet and Edward farmed for over 35 years milking cows, raising pigs and laying chickens to sell the eggs to friends and neighbors. She enjoyed cooking, canning, baking and loved gardening. She liked to watch the cardinals and the rest of the birds at the feeder and in the pine trees behind her home. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children; Rhoda Schuster, Ronald (Cindy) Fankhauser, Owen (Kathy) Fankhauser all of Brooklyn, six grandchildren; Heather Schuster, Michael Schuster, Heidi Fankhauser, Dana Reed, Ashley Fankhauser, Dustin Fankhauser, four great grandchildren; Lennon Fankhauser, Ben Reyes, Gavin Voice, Joselyn Nedlose, a sister in-law Carol Koch of Monticello, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, son David, brother Elwood Koch, half brother Harold Koch, half sister Irene Brinkmeier, half sister Helen Gobeli. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday September 9, 2014 at the Ward-Hurtley Funeral Home Evansville with Reverend Dr. Luke Bocher Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery Brooklyn. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday. The family would like to thank the staff at Collinwood for the care and compassion in taking care of Janet while she was a resident. A special thank you to Monroe Clinic Hospice and Lisa Anderson for everything during Janet's illness.
