DARLINGTON - James H. Winslow, age 71 of Darlington, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville with his family by his side. He was born on January 13, 1937 in Gratiot, WI to Leslie and Gertrude (Gille) Winslow. On January 19, 1957, he married Mary T. Hoeper at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. They were married for 52 years. Together, they raised nine children. He enjoyed working in the mines for 22 years and then worked at the Foundry in Browntown for 23 years, retiring in 2002. Jim enjoyed traveling. He liked working in the fields and in the garden. He was also an avid outdoorsman and had many outdoor hobbies.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children: Laurie (Jim) Hayes of Mesquite, Texas, Teresa (Victor Martinez) Fitzsimons of Darlington, James "Ape" Winslow Jr. of Darlington, Dan (Jodi) Winslow of Scales Mound, Illinois, Christine (Rick) Olson of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Tom (Corine Quentin) Winslow of Hudson, Iowa, Melissa (Troy) Wiegel of Shullsburg, Rick (Laurie) Winslow of Dickeyville, Brian (Carmen) Winslow of Darlington; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jean (Dick) Fox of Darlington, Mary (John) Dunlavy of Argyle; his nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sister: Earl Francis, Leo, Roy, Bernie, and Rita.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH in Darlington with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at STEIL CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials preferred.
