NEW GLARUS - Jacob Walter Zimmerman, Jr., age 93, of New Glarus passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the New Glarus Home. He was born April 14, 1921 in the Town of York to his parents Jacob Sr. and Maria (Schachtler) Zimmerman. On February 14, 1946 he was united in marriage to Ruth May Eichelkraut at the Swiss Church Parsonage in New Glarus. Walter was a farmer and beekeeper. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Walter loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
Walter is survived by his wife Ruth of New Glarus, a daughter Betty (Dave) Owen of New Glarus, WI, son Paul (Mary) Zimmerman of New Glarus, WI, grandchildren Jeremy (Amy) Owen, Nicholas (Ashlee Stampfli) Owen, Renee Zimmerman, Emily Zimmerman, and Tyrone Zimmerman, great-grandchildren Keevon, Marvin, and Markeese. He is further survived by a brother-in-law Leon Eichelkraut and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Gertrude Elmer, Meta Mueller, Hilda Baertschi, and Marie Thoman, and a great-granddaughter Catelyn Owen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pastor Petra Streiff officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
