Jack Cuevas Sr., 84 of Monroe, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.
Jack was born April 10, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Philipe and Mae (Gulley) Cuevas. He entered the U.S. Army on May 20, 1943 in Chicago. Jack served in France, Germany, and was awarded four battle stars before his honorable discharge on Nov. 22, 1948 at Fort Dix, N.J.
Jack and Elvira Cortez were married on May 6, 1950 in Crown Point, IN. They lived in McHenry, IL from 1960 until moving to Monroe in 2007. Jack worked at Knaack Mfg. in Crystal Lake, IL for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in McHenry and St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. He also was a member of the Monroe American Legion Post #84 and a long time McHenry Moose Lodge member.
Jack had a lifetime love of horses, enjoyed gardening, painting with water colors, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira Cuevas; a son, Jack (Wendy) Cuevas Jr., all of Monroe; two grandsons, Shawn and Jason Cuevas, both of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Philip and Arthur Cuevas.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Father Michael Klarer officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The family wishes donations in Jack's name be given to the Green County Humane Society or Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Green County.
