MONROE - Irma G. Stauffacher, age 97 of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Adams Township, Green County, on May 26, 1910, the daughter of George and Sophia (Benkert) Isely. She was a 1928 graduate of Monroe High School. Irma and Herbert H. Stauffacher were married on December 31, 1930. In 1958 she graduated from Green County Teachers College and taught in the Greenbush and Fairfield rural schools. Irma was a life long member of St. John's United Church of Christ, a member of the Rebeka Circle, the Women's Guild and taught Sunday School. She was also a 50 year member of the Pythian Sisters and a 25 year member of the Third Tuesday Homemakers.
Surviving are her sons, Albert (Joan) Stauffacher of Goodrich, MI, Gordon (Geraldine) Stauffacher of Buffalo Grove, IL; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Marilyn) Rutsch of Monroe. She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert; and brothers, Robert, Ralph and Lloyd Isely.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at St. John's United Church of Christ. Officiating will be Rev. Gretchen Sylvester, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the church. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice in Irma's memory.
