NEW BERLIN/BELLEVILLE - Irene Joyce Gibbons, age 87, a former Belleville resident passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Linden Grove in New Berlin, WI. She was born on February 3, 1927 at Browntown, WI to her parents Will and Leda (Gordee) Elmer. Irene graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, WI and then continued her education at Madison Business College. On September 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to Richard G. Gibbons at Monroe, WI. Irene worked as a secretary and receptionist for the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections for over twenty years. She was a member of the St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Belleville and the Catholic Women's Club. In addition to raising her family and working, Irene enjoyed playing with her bridge club, golf, and bowling. Irene was a charter member of the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus and league bowler. She was also an avid sports fan, especially the Packers and Badgers. Irene led an active lifestyle, visiting her family and traveling with other ladies from Belleville after her husband's passing in 1989.

Irene is survived by her children: James (Brenda) Gibbons of New Berlin, WI, Jack Gibbons of Rockford, MI, Charles (Lynne) Gibbons of Jupiter, FL, and Patricia (Bryan) Majewski of New Berlin, WI; grandchildren: Kelly (Sid) Wagner, Rick (Emily Schoen) Gibbons, Michael Gibbons, Ryan Gibbons, Jamie Gibbons, Katie Majewski, Jonathan Majewski, and Maggie Majewski; great-grandchildren: Connor Gibbons and Annabelle Wagner. She is further survived by brothers-in-law Bernard (Ruth) Gibbons of Monroe, WI, Tommy (Mary) Gibbons of Whitewater, WI, and Chuck Niles of Oshkosh, WI, sisters-in-law Mary Gibbons and Anna Mae Gibbons, and nieces, Mary Regez of Monroe, WI and Sue (John) Bowdich of Milton, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, and sisters, Wilma Gasserude, Florence Fjelstad, and Violet Regez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison St., Belleville, WI with the Rev. Michael Moon and Rev. Kenneth Klink officiating with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe, WI.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville.
