Helen Rose Stauffer, age 87 of Monroe, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on May 9, 1922 on the family farm in Green County, rural Monroe, the daughter of Henry and Kathryn (Rhiner) Klassy. She was a graduate of Monroe High School.
Helen and Robert M. Stauffer were married on October 22, 1950. Helen was employed at the First National Bank and later farmed with her husband Bob on the Klassy farm from 1950 to 1978. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where she had served as Church Council secretary, was past president of the Church Guild and was on the Church Counting Committee. She was a member of the Richland Homemakers and served as president of the Green County Homemakers.
Surviving is her son, Ron (Michelle) Stauffer of Monroe; sister, Erma Klassy of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Katherine Becker and Marion Borchard; also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert and sister, Ruth Cadman.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010 at St. John's United Church of Christ. Officiating will be Rev. Gretchen Sylvester with family burial at Highland Cemetery in Monticello.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe.
A Memorial Fund is being established in Helen's memory. The family would like to thank staff at Pleasant View Nursing Home for their compassionate and dedicated care of Helen.
