Helen was born on May 11, 1914 in the town of Alto, Fond du Lac County, a daughter of Edward and Jessie (Straks) Lemmenes. On May 25, 1938 she was united in marriage to Erwin Daane in Brandon. After completing normal school courses in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh, Helen taught for several years in a one-room school house outside of Alto. Helen was brought up in the Alto Reformed Church and became a member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Brandon from marriage until 1967. Erwin and Helen then moved to Waupun where they joined Emmanuel Reformed. She taught Sunday school programs of these churches until she was 80 years old. Plus Helen was a very active member of the women's missions and service organizations of these churches as well as local and regional leadership offices. She enjoyed singing in the church choirs, and in two ladies choruses under the direction of Mrs. Leonard Giebink. She was an avid reader and enjoyed making her own clothes. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
