Hazel E. Wyss, age 90, of Monroe entered eternal life on Sunday evening, December 8, 2013 at Monroe Clinic Hospital and joined her loving husband and best friend Jacob. She had lived at the home of her daughter Carol in Monroe for the past 21 years.
Hazel was born March 22, 1923 in Argyle township, the daughter of John and Beatta (Rood) Hansen. She attended Andrews and Darlington grade schools and graduated from Darlington High School in 1941. On August 13, 1944 she married Jacob A. Wyss at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. She and her husband farmed in the Monroe area until 1959, they then owned and operated a restaurant and bar in Argyle for 14 years. Hazel and Jacob then moved to Monroe where she worked for Armour Cheese Co. from March 8, 1973 until January 1993. After retiring she went to work at Wal-Mart where she was still employed as a greeter.
She was a member of Corner Stone Lutheran Church in Argyle and a member of the V.F.W Auxiliary in Monroe.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol J. (Robert) Krupke of Monroe, and Jacqueline A. (John C.) Gierhart; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Jacob June 4, 1992; son, James A. Wyss April 15, 2008; sisters, Rosaline Hansen 1932, Blanche Andrews 1985, Edna Solberg, Julia Krohn 2001; brother, James Hansen 1963.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 11:30 until time of service at 1:00 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave.
