Gordon D. Kent, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Warren, IL, on October 15, 2014. He was born in Warren Township on December 9, 1920, the son of Clarence and Edna (Gallagher) Kent. After his father's death during the 1930s, Gordon learned the harsh realities of life, "earning his keep" by hiring out as a farmhand as a young boy. He married Betty Zink in 1943 and they recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

As a lifelong farmer, Gordon loved the land, machinery and growing crops. Besides farming, he found much enjoyment in fishing and gardening and he read three daily newspapers.

More importantly though, Gordon will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his dependability and honesty. His grandchildren treasure the memories of being loved and "spoiled" by him, his sense of fun and that hearty laugh. We were all so blessed to share life with him.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty; sons: Terry (Carol) of Edgerton, WI, Steven (Sharon) of Gratiot, WI, Keith of Warren and Todd of Platteville, WI; grandchildren: Angela (Wayne) Laufenberg, Kelly (Keith) Baron, Amy (Eric) Richardson, Kraig (Michelle) Kent, Trisha (Alex) Schaar, Matthew (Rachel) Kent and Brian (Heidi) Kent; great grandchildren: Jacob, Remi, Elizabeth, Lauren, Ethan, Emma, Ashton, Gavin and Grady; sister: Mae Maines of Freeport, IL; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. with burial to follow. Memorials in Gordon's name may be directed to the Warren Fire Department or the Warren Area Ambulance Service.
