Gladys May Westgard, 87, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born the daughter of John and Margaret (Jarman) Frei on March 21, 1929 in Washington Township. Gladys was united in marriage to Loudon Westgard, Sr. on July 25, 1959 in Monroe.
Gladys worked as a waitress and cook at the Waffle Shop and Bernie's as well as Corner Cafe; and she also worked at the Monroe Manor. She was involved with 4-H for many years. Gladys enjoyed taking care of her house plants and flowers, traveling and visiting with family and friends, especially her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (Martin) Cooper of Ft. Myers, FL, Timothy (Rhonda) Westgard of North Ft. Myers, FL, Alan (Marlyn) Westgard of Bremerton, WA, and Richard (Dodi) Westgard of Monroe; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Alice Westgard of Monroe; she is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Loudon Westgard, Jr.; brother, Kenneth Frei, Sr.; sister, Mildred Snyder; and granddaughter, Heidi May Westgard.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Gaffner officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Gladys' name.
