Gertrude Priska (Ziehli) Busser

NEW GLARUS - Gertrude Priska (Ziehli) Busser, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 16, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, WI. She was born on June 5, 1925 in Monroe, WI the daughter of Ernest and Priska (Wyttenbach) Ziehli. Gertrude graduated from Belleville High School in 1945. She then attended nursing school in Freeport, IL and became a Registered Nurse. On January 30, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Busser. Gertrude worked as a R.N. at the State Hospital in Madison, WI, Memorial Hospital in Dodgeville, WI, St. Claire Hospital in Monroe, WI, the New Glarus Home, Preferred Living in Monroe, WI, and retired in 2003. Gertrude and Melvin also owned and operated the Hollandale Cheese Factory. Gertrude had a love for helping and caring for people that showed through her caregiving as a registered nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. During her retirement years she was able to enjoy the outdoors working in her flower beds and garden. Gertrude had a true green thumb and gave many plants a new life. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always having something for them.

Survivors include her three children Walter (Judy) Busser of Blue Mounds, WI, Shirley (Ron) Bircher of New Glarus, WI, Donald (Judy) Busser of Monticello, WI, a sister Ona Riggin of Temple Terrace, FL, and a brother Paul (Rosemary) Ziehli of Belleville, WI. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, Robert (Kara) Busser, Randall Busser, Rachelle (Andy) Traxler, Matthew (Becky) Bircher, Jason Busser, Jennifer Busser, Ashley Busser, Nicole Disrud, and Brandon Disrud, seven great-grandchildren MacClain Busser, Lane and Lily Busser, Reese Bircher, Korbin Timm, Shila Perez, and Shanoah Disrud-Kelley.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, parents, two infant brothers, and two infant sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 Twelfth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating with burial in the Belleville Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is serving the family.
