MONROE - Gertrude Marie Goecks, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Azura Memory Care in Monroe surrounded by her loving family. She was the last of her family. Gertie was born September 19, 1919 in rural Green County to Fred and Mathilda Meinen Burkhalter. She married Frederick T. Goecks on January 15, 1938 at St. John's Church in Monroe. Her enjoyments in life were family get togethers, bowling, bird watching, reading, word puzzles, and car rides. Gertie and her sisters Lillian and Hilda were affectionately known as "The Golden Girls." She lived by herself until May 2016 when she moved to Azura Memory Care, which she called home. The family is grateful for their loving care as well as the wonderful care from Monroe Clinic Hospice this last week.

Gertie is survived by her children Larry (Arlene) Goecks, Kathy (Bill) Wyss, and Lonny (Marcia) Goecks, ten grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Pat Goecks, and her dear friend Joanne and Shirla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1980, son LeRoy in 1994, daughter-in-law Therese in 2015 as well as all of her brothers and sisters, Helen, Lillian, Wilma, Hilda, Lloyd, Roy, and Harry.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI with Rev. Nicole Espe officiating.

A gathering of relatives of friends will precede the memorial service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
