Gertrude A. Kraus, 95, of Freeport, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Stephenson Nursing Center. Gertrude was born on January 30, 1920, in Green County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Katherine (Kubly) Brandt. On December 12, 1951 she married James Kraus in Rockford. Mr. Kraus passed away on June 7, 2001. Gertrude and her husband both farmed in Stephenson County, she worked at Burgess Battery, and was a 25 year employee of Structo King-Seely before retiring in 1985.

Gertrude enjoyed flowers, gardening, a good game of cards, crossword puzzles and Bingo. Gertrude loved watching the Chicago Bears. Her favorite place to go was McDonald's.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. Roberts of Lady Lake, Florida, and Mary (Robert) Heiden of Beaverton, Oregon; brother, Frederick (Juanita) Brandt of Monroe, WI.; granddaughters, Lisa (Katt Tincher) Rhea of Janesville, WI., Teresa (John) Mize of Polo, Stacey (John) Clinton of Kissimmee, Florida., Brenda (Jim) Wilson of Dixon and Robyn Olson of Oregon. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Scott Lamar, Jeremy, Chris and Hanna Wilson, Faith Clinton and great great grandson Levi Lamar.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Grace Disch and Hilda Schadewaldt and Katie her beloved cat.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday March 9, 2015 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Rev. Diane Jochum will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
