Garlan John VanNatta, age 75, died August 24, 2014 in Minocqua, WI after a short illness and a long battle with diabetes. Garlan was born on June 4, 1939 in Platteville, Wisconsin. He was the son of Frank L. VanNatta and Margret Stark VanNatta Adickes. Garlan graduated from Platteville High School and married Janice B. Ransom on November 21, 1959 in St. Peters Lutheran Church in Fennimore, WI.

Garlan served in the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. He became a Master Plumber and worked as a Union Plumber until he was employed as Assistant Chief Engineer at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI.

Garlan and Janice moved to Minocqua and started VanNatta Plumbing in 1979. Upon retiring in 1996, they would winter in Weslaco, Texas and return home in the summer to be with family. They enjoyed many years of travel together.

Garlan had many interests and activities of which include: a member of the Masons, an American Legion member, snowmobiling, of which he was past President and trail master of the Lake Tomahawk Sno Fleas, President of the yellow hat club in Weslaco, Texas, square dancing, wood carving and wood turning. Garlan had carved a special piece for each one of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Janice, Weslaco, Texas; his daughter Christine (Mike) Barenklau, Monroe, WI; his sons Todd (Rebecca), Lake Tomahawk, WI, Alan (Kris), Eagle River, WI; two siblings, Joan (Gene) Belken, Janesville, WI, Glorjean (Dennis) Blackbourn, Clinton, IA; grandchildren, Caleb (Meghan) Riese, Oshkosh, WI, Chelsey (Steve) Ihm, Lancaster, WI, Crae (Lyndsey) Riese, Spooner, WI, Alex and Michael VanNatta, Lake Tomahawk, WI, Brandon VanNatta, Eagle River, WI, AJ VanNatta, Winter Garden, FL, Jessie VanNatta, Eagle River, WI; great-grandchildren, Georgia, Jennings, and Jordy.

He was preceded in death by Brother-In-Law Jerald Ransom, Father-In-Law John Ransom, sisters, Constance Udelhofen, and Linda Gerber, Mother Margret Stark VanNatta Adickes and Father Frank VanNatta.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, September 14th at 2:30 p.m. in the First English Lutheran Church, Platteville, WI.
