Francis "Frank" A. Goonan, age 86 of rural Browntown, died on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Monroe Manor. He was born on October 5, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank A. and Mary (Devlin) Goonan. Frank was a graduate of St. Rita High School in South Chicago. Frank and Dorothy Marie Goff were married on February 7, 1953 in Milwaukee.

He worked for his Dad's Eagle Bleach Company in Chicago after high school on the south side of Chicago. Frank then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 313 signal Corps, radio Company. Frank was a beef cattle farmer for 44 years calling the farm Triple Springs Stock Farm. He also worked for Joe Marty Cheese Factory, hauling milk and worked for Kelly Springfield in Freeport, IL.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in South Wayne and the Knights of Columbus, Monroe Council. He was one of the originators of zip lining, on the farm pond and pond hockey. He enjoyed 10 K runs and canoe racing. Frank loved to fly, owning his own plane and flew to many destinations throughout the nation.

Frank is survived by his wife, Dorothy at the home farm in rural Browntown; children Mary Goonan of Belleville, Dr. Georgette Goonan of Fountain, CO, Frank (Maureen) Goonan of Fredericksburg, VA, Terri (Todd) Hughes of Monroe, Betty (Gene) Abraham of Browntown, Jackie (Jerry) Boss of Browntown; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Goonan of Manitowoc; grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; sisters and brother-in-law, Bette (Harold) O'Connor Sr., Sister Marguerite Goonan O.P., brother, James Goonan; nephew, Harold O'Connor, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. At St. John's Catholic Church 202 South Varnum St., South Wayne, with Fr. JoJi Thirumalareddy officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Gratiot with full military rites accorded. A visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home.

A memorial fund is being established in Frank's memory.
