Florence L. Babler, age 97 of Monticello, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Harbor House in Monroe.
Florence was born December 15, 1910 in Cadiz Township, Green County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Fiechter) Sippel. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1928 and Green County Normal School in 1929. Florence taught rural school prior to her marriage to Willis H. Babler on March 31, 1932 at St. John's Evangelical Church in Monroe.
Florence and Willis farmed in Mount Pleasant Township before moving into Monticello in 1972.
She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello where she taught Sunday School and served on the Friendship Circle, was a longtime member of the Mount Pleasant Homemakers, 4-H Leader for several years, and served on the Monticello School Board.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary (Norton) Strommen of Tennessee, Carol (Gordon) Schultz of Albany, Judith (Verlyn) Adamson of Mt. Horeb; a son, Robert H. (Judith) Babler of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Evelyn Wheaton of Irvine, CA; a sister-in-law, Frances Sippel of Monroe; and a brother-in-law, Harris (Bonnie) Babler of Marshfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis, on January 20, 1996; two grandsons, Douglas Adamson and Todd Babler; two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008, at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Monroe Clinic Hospice, Zwingli United Church of Christ, or the charity of one's choice.
