LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Fern Evelyn Reed, age 95, born August 9, 1912, formally of Reno, Nevada and Brodhead, Wisconsin, passed away at her home on April 15, 2008. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1931 and attended nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wis.
She worked as a nurse for several years at Stuessy Clinic in Brodhead. In 1962 she moved to Reno, Nevada and was a nurse for Dr. Duxbury for 26 years. In March 1963 she married Charles Reed and they were married for 28 years. In 2000 she moved to The Wellington in Laguna Woods, Calif., to be near her daughter, Ginger. In 2006 she moved to Quality Life Homes in Laguna Niguel, Calif., where she passed away.
She was an avid horsewoman and won many awards at horse shows in the Wisconsin areas.
She had a lifelong love for music and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing the slot machines.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Jerry) Schmitt, Monroe, Wis. and Ginger (Ed) Waddell, Las Flores, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Condon, Whitewater, Wis. and Carol Condon, Brodhead, Wis.; and six nephews.
Her husband, Charles Reed, father and mother, Gurney and Emma (Anderson) Condon, two sisters, Pearl Zimmerman and Ruth Hutchins and two brothers, Roger Condon and Robert Condon, preceded her in death.
Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Reno, Nevada.
A memorial service will be held at a later time in Brodhead.
