Felony drug suspect in court

MONROE - A suspect in a recent felony drug arrest waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday in Green County Circuit Court.

Norman Jay Wells, 44, of Monroe, appeared in court with his attorney to face charges, stemming from an April 20 drug raid.

An arraignment date was set for June 1 before Circuit Court Judge James R. Beer.

Wells is charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, a class F felony; possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, a class F felony; a second offense of possession of THC, a class I felony; maintaining a drug trafficking place, a class I felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, an unclassified misdemeanor.

For several months, officers of the Monroe Police and the State Line Area Narcotics Team had been investigating alleged heroin and cocaine trafficking to young people in the community.

Vicki L. Carlson, 43, Monroe, was also arrested during the raid and is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her initial appearance is set for May 23.
