Evelyn V. Keen
Evelyn V. Keen, age 86 of Juda, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the New Glarus Home. Evelyn was born April 20, 1922 in Virgil, South Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Ziemann) Matzke. She moved with her family to Juda in 1937, and graduated from Juda High School in 1939. She married Roland G. Keen in 1942 and lived on the Keen farm in Juda. Thanks to good neighbors, she was able to remain in her home in Juda until 2004.
In addition to farm wife and mother, Evelyn was a bookkeeper for A.S. Matzke, Juda, and Roy's Dairy, Monroe. She was a member of the Juda Zion United Methodist Church and its Women's Circle. She was an excellent quilter and collected a wealth of geneological information on the Matzke and Keen families, the Juda church, and many other Juda families.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn (Jack) Michel, Wenatchee, WA, Carol Hasse, Juda, WI, Russell Keen, Aberdeen, SD, Dennis (Denise) Keen, Spokane, WA, and Mary (Dave Antonneau) Keen, Northfield, MN; eight grandchildren, Jef (Christa) Michel, Jeremy (Shirley) Michel, Tammy Hasse (Bill) McGuire, Michael (Holly) Hasse, Elizabeth Keen, Olivia Keen, Thaine Antonneau, and Claire Antonneau; six great-grandchildren, Amanda McGuire, Trevor McGuire, Alex Hasse, Katelin, Joshua, and Natalie Moon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rollie, in 1993; and her brother, Clarence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Zion United Methodist Church in Juda with Rev. Thomas Miller and Rev. Mark Geisthardt officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda. A visiation will be held on Thursday, June 12, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
