BRODHEAD - Evan E. Appleman, age 93, Marshfield, formerly of Brodhead, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Marshfield Care Center. He was born on March 24, 1916 in LaFarge, WI, the son of Howard and Josie (Wagner) Appleman. He married Nellie L. Parker on March 1, 1939 in LaFarge. She passed away on May 3, 2007.
Evan was a cheese maker for over 65 years. He and his wife came to Brodhead in 1940 where he worked for Goldenrod Creamery for over 40 years, including general manager. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, former member of the Lion's Club, and life member of the Historical Society, both in Brodhead. He loved baseball, hunting, fishing, and traveling.
He is survived by two sons, Ron (Kathy Shupe) Appleman, Marshfield, WI, Steven (Donna) Appleman, Oconto Falls, WI; a brother, Orville (Peggy) Appleman, Janesville; a sister, Marie O'Brian, Sacramento, CA; and a grandson, Commander Bradley (Nicole) Appleman, Washington D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Jeannette, in infancy; a daughter-in-law, Linda Appleman; and a sister, Bernice Evans.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Pastor Steve Groves officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Brodhead Historical Society.
