FREEPORT - Eva P. Bauch, 94, of Freeport, IL died on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Parkview Retirement Center in Freeport. She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Lafayette County, Wisconsin to E. Claude and Alta (Kelly) Thorp. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1935 and attended the University of Illinois-Champaign Urbana for two years.

She married Ferd M. Bauch on August 25, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa and she and her husband ran Savanna Ordinance Depot Bus Service during World War II, and Bauch Ever-Soft Soft Water Manufacturing and Service Company in Freeport for fifty years.

Eva loved to travel. She and her husband spent their retirement years visiting their children and grandchildren in various parts of the country. After the death of her husband, she continued traveling with her children to many vacations places in the U.S. and England. In England, she was able to trace her ancestry and visit her father's ancestral home. Her adventures included a barefoot cruise in the Caribbean with three of her daughters.

For many years, she was a daily reader of the Wall Street Journal and several financial magazines retaining a keen interest in this area to the end of her life. She loved people, personal biographies, and preserving family history. Eva maintained a strong friendship with the members of her Winslow High School graduating class and enjoyed participating in their annual reunions for over 75 years. She was a great supporter of her children and grandchildren and took pleasure in following their activities and accomplishments.

She was an active member of the community. Her memberships included St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Freeport Women's Club, Stephenson County Historical Society, Freeport Art Museum, and the Lincoln-Douglas Society. She was a significant contributor and supporter of the development of The Lincoln Douglas Debate Statue and Debate Square. She was also a board member of Christian Hollow Cemetery Association for over forty years.

She is survived by one son, Frederick (Angelica) Bauch of Pittsburgh, PA and five daughters: Sister Patricia A. Bauch, OP of Sinsinawa, WS, Mickey (Patrick) Martin of Freeport, Karen (Michael) Dorrough of Woodland Hills, CA, Barbara Groves of Freeport, and Christine (Brent Blake) Bauch of Aurora, CO; sister-in-law Pauline "Polly" Thorp of Freeport, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband (1993), her daughter Cheryl (Moore), grandson Michael Patrick (Martin), granddaughter Nicole (Copriviza), granddaughter Erin Moore, infant sister Ilo, brother James, sister Elizabeth "Bessie" (Judd), and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral Mass was conducted Monday, March 26, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Eva's name to the Parkview Retirement Center or St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
