Eugene W. "Eyner" Hefty
Eugene W. "Eyner" Hefty age 71 of Monticello, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home following a brief illness. Eugene was born May 25, 1940 in Monroe, the son of Wilbert and Helga (Peterson) Hefty.
He attended Loveland Rural School and graduated from Monticello High School in 1958. He married Susan Marty on May 14, 1961 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello.
He worked as a milk hauler for Town Hall Cheese Factory while attending high school and as a cheesemaker at Chalet Cheese CO-OP and Wittenwyler-Burgy Cheese Factory for 9 years following graduation.
Eugene worked for 21 years mostly as shop foreman at Monroe Truck Equipment and was currently employed for the past 23 years at Monticello Ford.
He was confirmed at Washington Reformation Church and was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ.
Eugene loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid Packer, Brewer, Badger, and Monticello Pony fan. One of his favorite pastimes was working on his tractors and attending thresheries.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Hefty; four children, Robin (Chris) Berg, Heidi (Tracy) Wing, Allan (Kathy) Hefty, and Teresa (Steve) Dilley, all of Monticello; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Preston, and Marissa Berg, Heather, Hailey, and Haidyn Wing, Brett and Aaron Hefty, and Christa (C.J.) and Paige Dilley; two brothers, Maynard (Jan) Hefty of Monticello, Paul (Florence) Hefty of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vila Mae Hefty; and a step-grandson, Grant Berg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, Monticello. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name for Monroe Clinic Hospice, Monticello Foundation, and Zwingli Church.
