BELVIDERE - Eugene Robert Burton, 79, of Belvidere, Ill., died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wis.

He was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Chemung to Ezra and Ida (Labo) Burton.

He married Doris Louise Shulz on Dec. 23, 1951, in Harvard, Ill. He was the owner of Burton Farm Supply in Harvard. He served 34 years with the Harvard Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, trustee and treasurer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Harvard Moose Lodge. He also was an avid golfer, fisherman and camper.

He is survived by three children, Robert (Anita) Burton of Morrison, Sherri Burton of Monroe, Wis., and Dean (Stephanie) Burton of Clinton, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Nicole (Bryan) Pierce, Elizabeth and Jacob Burton, Charles (Carrisa) and Sean McCormick, Angela (Andy) Fuch, James, Jared, Bradly, Ashly, and Anthony Burton, and Tiena Trebes; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Burton Conley of St. Charles, Mo.; and a brother, Arthur (Anne) Burton of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris on May 21, 2007; his parents; an infant son, Darrell Eugene Burton; and two brothers, Charles and Walter Burton.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard. And again from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, June 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 E. Diggins St., Harvard. The Rev. John Cunningham will officiate. Interment will follow at Dunham-Chemung Cemetery in Harvard.

A memorial is being established by his family.
