Esther A. Churchill, 86, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Beloit Memorial Hospital after a brief sudden illness.
She was born September 21, 1921 in Green County, WI, the daughter of Emil and Amy Bonewits Preisig. Esther was a 1939 graduate of Monroe High School. She married Burdette O. Churchill on September 28, 1941 in Clarno, WI. He predeceased her on July 17, 1999.
Esther's working career was in the dental profession. She was employed by doctors S.C. McCall, P.A. Howell, Carl Lusby and Arthur Potts, retiring in 1985. She served as president of almost every group she belonged to including: City Council PTA, American Business Women, State Dental Assistants Association, State China Painters and Wisconsin Organization of China Painters. Esther was the program chairman for the Badger Council Girl Scouts. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and china painting.
Esther was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She made prom dresses, too many to count. She designed and made a wedding gown for one daughter and led a sewing team that made bridesmaid and flower girl dresses for three of her granddaughters' weddings. Esther and Burdette created a very close loving family. They shared hunting, fishing, camping trips and taught their children and grandchildren creativity and the love of animals and nature.
Her leadership skills were recognized by the groups to which she belonged. She developed lifelong friendships in all of these groups; especially her china painting friends.
Clarno, Esther's home, was special to her and to her family and it is fitting that Clarno will be her final resting place.
