Emma E. Krattiger, age 85 of Monroe, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Emma was born April 24, 1926 at the Pinnow Cheese Factory in Decatur Township to Fred and Rosa (Denzler) Wieland.

She graduated from the 8th grade at Brodhead school. Emma married Frederick Krattiger on November 18, 1943 in Monroe.

Emma and Fred owned Fred and Em's Bar in Verona for six years before moving to Monroe and purchasing the Swiss Tavern which they operated for 29 years before retiring in 1992. Emma was a hard worker throughout her life and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Steven (Vicki) Krattiger; four grandchildren, Matthew (Rose), Brett, Dena, and James (Jessica) Krattiger; and three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Harper, and Lennon Krattiger, all of Brodhead.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick on March 16, 2006; a son James in 1962; daughter-in-law, Judith Krattiger; three sisters, Nellie Scheidegger, Elsa Rattin, and Trudy Smith; and six brothers, John, Fred, Walter, Jacob, Albert, and Carl Wieland.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, with Reverend William "Mike" Heath of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, officiating.
