Elva M. Wolfe, age 91, formerly of Winslow, IL, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. Elva was born August 3, 1916 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of the late Gustave and Emma (Edwards) Eder. She graduated from Freeport High School and earned a degree in Education from DeKalb Teachers College.
She taught at Pleasant Hill grade school in Winslow, Mill Grove school in Pearl City, and taught 13 years at Center School in Freeport. Elva and Ira J. Wolfe were united in marriage on August 5, 1951 at Staver St. Peter United Methodist Church, Clarno Township. Following their marriage, Elva worked as a substitute teacher in the Orangeville schools. She was a longtime member of Staver St. Peter United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, served as financial secretary for 14 years, and participated in the Room For You Class. She was also a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband, Ira J. Wolfe, a resident of Pleasant View; a daughter, Margaret Wolfe of Dixon, IL; a son, Wayne Wolfe of Monroe; two cousins, Betty Wieman of Freeport and Barbara Laible of California; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Staver St. Peters United Methodist Church, Clarno Township. Reverend Dixie Marklund will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe.
