Elva was born December 9, 1910, to Max and Anna (Babler) Wyss in Green County. She attended Badger Country School, West of Brodhead, completing the 8th grade. She worked as a domestic housekeeper at several residences before attending practical nurses training at the former Deaconess Hospital, Monroe. Elva married Max L. Rinehart on February 4, 1937, at St. John's United Church of Christ by the late Rev. Schuh. She and Max farmed in Cadiz Township, South East of Browntown, raising dairy, swine, and poultry. Part of their farm was in the Rinehart family dating to the 1850s. During the 1950s Elva was active in the local 4H club. She and Max retired to Monroe in 1981. Elva was an active quilter, making over one hundred quilts for family and friends. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, the church quilting group, Farm Bureau, and homemakers circle. Elva had a passion for gardening and grew beautiful flowers. Often, a passerby would stop and photograph her garden.
