JANESVILLE - Elmer L. Rasmussen, age 89, of Janesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at his home. He was born in Oregon, WI, on March 15, 1918, the son of Hjalmer C. and Geneva (Sorle) Rasmussen. Elmer served in the US Army during WWII. He married Maudie I. Wandell on Sept. 13, 1945, in Edgerton. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2007. He worked at Ossit Church Furniture Company and operated a dairy and hog farm near Brodhead for nearly 20 years and later worked for Triangle Pipe and Tube in Footville for 14 years. He was a member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Janesville, and enjoyed fixing small engines and lawn mowers.
He is survived by his 5 children: Barbara Rasmussen of Rockford, IL, Jean (Gary) Steinmetz of Janesville, Marilyn Thomann of Monroe, Nancy (Gary) Burrington of Brodhead, and Leslie (Deanne) Rasmussen of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Esther M. Rasmussen and Gladys Helgeson, both of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 4 brothers: Leo, Homer, Jim, and Arnold Rasmussen; and a sister, Florence Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at TRINITY FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Frank Cherney officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to either HospiceCare Inc. or the Alzheimers Support Center of Rock County.
