Dr. John Emerson Inman passed away unexpectedly from a blood clot in the heart at home in Monroe, WI on Friday, September 16, 2011. Dr. Inman was born on August 24, 1942 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. He grew up on the family farm in Clinton, WI and moved with his mother to Janesville in middle school after the death of his father. John graduated from Janesville high school in 1960 and attended Carroll College where he was a member of Delta Rho Upsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1964 with a bachelors of science in chemistry. John then earned his Masters in zoology from the University of Miami (Florida) followed by his M.D. from Marquette Medical School/Medical College of Wisconsin. He did his internship at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina and then joined the Monroe Clinic in 1974, retiring in 1997.
John was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and sat on numerous committees. He was also extremely active in the Boy Scouts of America being an Eagle Scout who obtained the Silver Beaver Award, Silver Antelope Award, and a Wood Badge. He was involved in Canyon Camp, and was the leader for six World Jamborees, as well as participating in three National Jamborees. He was the Scout Leader for Troop 101, Adventure Leader for Troop 1812, and sat on the Central Region Board and the board for the Blackhawk Area Council, including being President. John was also involved with various state and local Geneology societies, as well as state medical boards and societies. John was a world-traveller who welcomed three AFS students into his home: Jesper Hjorth (Denmark), Maria "Masha" Omelchenko Donnelly (Ukraine) and Sara Edman (Sweden).
John is predeceased by his parents, Virginia Rowe Inman Alwin and Elijah Inman, and is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Barbara Wurtz Inman, and their children; Mark Edward Inman (married to Andrea Marie Hunter), Matthew John Inman (married to Maria del Pilar Torres Molina ("Pily"), Sarah Lyn Inman Lichey (married to Andrew Lichey), and Rachel Heron Inman Domark (married to Jason Ryan Domark). John was also blessed with ten grandchildren: Daniel Jacob Inman, Hannah Nicole Inman, Jordan Elizabeth Inman, Jessica Nicole Inman, Hailey Anne Lichey, Emily Maria Inman, Jacob Elijah Lichey, Vanessa Margaret Inman, Maria Elise Inman, William Del Lichey.
John was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend, a doctor, and a mentor to many. He will be sorely missed by all.
The viewing will be held on Friday, September 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Shriner Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Drive, P.O. Box 86, Monroe, WI 53566. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe, WI with grave-side service at 2:30 at Clinton Cemetery. The family asks that any flowers be ordered through Monroe Floral Shop or that donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America Canyon Camp or First Presbyterian Church, in the name of Dr. Inman.
