Dorothy L. Johnson, age 90 of Wiota, WI passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI. She was born on December 23, 1922 the daughter of Edward and Emma (Blaser) Johnson at her parent's home in Wiota, WI, where she retired to in 1987. Dorothy graduated from Argyle High School in 1940 and attended Milwaukee State Teachers College for one year and then graduated from Miss Brown's Business College in Milwaukee, WI. Dorothy's thirty-five year career at Monroe Clinic began as a secretary and concluded as an Administrative Assistant.
Dorothy is survived by two sisters: Maryln Grimm of Madison, WI, and Emogene Johnson of Columbus, WI; and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Eleanor Gifford; and two brothers-in-law: Howard Gifford and Kenneth Grimm.
Dorothy has been involved in many organizations ESA, Questers, and President of American Heart Association, as well as many community services. She often held positions of leadership. Dorothy touched many lives with her intelligence, her faith, and her fun-loving personality. She loved her family, friends, music, and history (especially Wiota's). Dorothy was heavily involved in the research, writing, and distribution of a book that details Wiota's history: "Wiota, William S. Hamilton's Diggings: The History of Wiota 1828-1993". She played countless Dorothy card games, mostly Bridge. She traveled extensively, her favorite being Kenya, Africa. Dorothy was especially devoted to her church, Wiota Lutheran, where she served 60 years as organist and served on many committees. Dorothy's philosophy: "I've tried to show respect for other people and differences of opinion. I've tried to keep an open mind."
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Highway 78, in rural South Wayne, WI, with Rev. Luke S. Smetters officiating. Burial will be in West Wiota Cemetery in rural Gratiot, WI. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Highway 78, in rural South Wayne.
