WOOLWICH - Doris Ann Nuesse, 78, of Woolwich ME, died peacefully at the Bodwell Hospice center on Thursday, October 18, 2012 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Doris was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on August 14,1934, the only child of Henry and Isabel Tschudy. In 1956 she married William Nuesse and lovingly raised their three children. Doris received a B.S. in Nursing from University of Southern Maine. She graduated, Magna Cum Laude, with a M.S. in Nursing from Georgetown University.

She began her nursing career as an RN at Madison General Hospital. She worked with skilled nursing units at Bath Memorial Hospital and Mere Point Bodwell House at Midcoast Health Center in Brunswick, where she served as the director. She retired in 2007.

Gifted with an artistic eye and excellent design sense, Doris co-owned and ran a Danish modern interior goods and furniture store called Tomtegard with her friend and business partner Marcia (Sims) Anderson.

Doris believed in participation, membership and actions that demonstrated her values. She was active in the Woolwich Conservation Commission, served as past president of the Wiscasset Garden Club, Deacon of the Day's Ferry Congregational Church, and a member of that church choir for many years. While a resident of Camden, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church. As a teenager in Monroe she delighted in managing an ice cream stand.

Doris contributed many volunteer hours at the Morris Farm, a Wiscasset community farm, and as the state representative of the Maine Ending Hunger Project. She was a long-standing member of National Audubon Society and Natural Resources Council of Maine.

Doris's survivors include her second husband John Grill of Woolwich, her son Michael Nuesse of Hull, Massachusetts, her son John Nuesse of Atlanta, Georgia and her daughter Ann McClellan of Camden, Maine. Grandchildren include Alex, Isabel, Adaline Nuesse of Hull, Mass., Dickson Nuesse of Atlanta, and Thomas and Amelia McClellan of Camden.

Memorial donations may be made to the music program at Days Ferry Congregational Church, P.O. Box 103, Woolwich, Maine, 04579.

A celebration of life service is scheduled for November 24, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Day's Ferry Church.
